Dori's Flock & Friends - A Homegrown Labor of Love
Hi! My name is Kim, and I have a deep love for birds.

Dori's Flock & Friends is simply my way of sharing this passion with others and caring for my flock, most of whom are rescues. It all started a few years ago when people noticed me walking with my bird, Dori, and anonymously slipped some money into my bag. I was truly touched! As I shared my love for birds and my desire to help them, I received more support from kind-hearted individuals. A friend suggested I create a 501c3 to offer a tax-deductible option as a way to give back to those who gave gifts, and so I did, but my focus has always been on the joy of caring for birds rather than appearing official or large-scale.
Dori's Flock & Friends is a labor of love and a cherished hobby. While I appreciate every gift, they are never expected, and I don’t showcase my birds to solicit funds. I won’t even use term “events” anymore because it has a specific legal definition which does not match what I do, and I don’t consider visiting friends with my pet to be much of an event…though Dori, my Macaw, might disagree! (She thinks she could make an event out of anything!)
I do enjoy taking my birds out for casual visits a few times a year in a very informal capacity, and I’m happy to meet if you are interested in learning more about them. I love connecting with anyone else interested in birds! Please understand that I prefer to keep things simple and honest, ensuring that any support or gift I do receive comes from the heart in a completely unsolicited way, not simply to “see” an interesting animal.
Occasionally, I post on social media about new birds joining my flock or share updates about their care, including requests for assistance with vet bills or other expenses. Over the years I have seen just how much you all care about these updates and it warms my heart! However, these posts are not intended as solicitations; rather, they are meant to share my passion for helping birds and to allow those who have expressed a wish to help with my expenses to do so voluntarily, in the same way that any other pet owner might create a go fund me for their dog’s expensive surgery or other needs. This is a casual effort but one that could help save a life, and I believe in our power to help and support one another!
As a dedicated bird owner, almost all of my expenses come from my own pocket, so every gift is truly special. I do not breed or sell birds, and any new additions to my flock or adoptions are always done in person. Please understand that to ensure a loving forever home for each bird, I do ask for a fair adoption fee (which is usually to simply ask that you enroll in parrot kindergarten, a program for bird owners that empowers you and your bird as you begin your journey) but all interactions are face-to-face, with no brokering allowed or involved.
If you’re interested in learning more about birds, need advice, are looking to re-home a bird, or just want to chat with a fellow bird lover, I’m more than happy to talk. Any gifts I do receive from you all go towards essentials like food, toys, and vet bills—nothing goes into my personal finances. Simply put, I’m just a regular lady who loves birds, and I’m incredibly grateful for the unexpected support and joy you guys have given me over the years. I hope this page can tell everyone who is curious a bit more about me and how “the Flock” came to be. Thank you!

Bird In Need?
Scroll down and contact me with any questions you have. I can only accept birds on a limited case by case basis, as I am just one woman in my home and though I'd love to adopt every bird, I just can't. I am always happy to provide advice whenever possible or needed though, or just chat birds!
